Summer balance

Having just spent over a week in this beautiful spot in Cornwall we are so grateful to have a fantastic work/life balance.

The benefits of being self employed enable us to take a break when we want to without needing to ask for permission from employers or juggling teams to cover the work.

However we are slightly a victim of our own success as the bakery has been so busy that for a while we were wondering if we should take any time off. When we are not here baking stops but our customers understand and are here waiting when we return. Within 12hours of being home, ovens were on and we were supporting a local event with our breads, the doorbell was ringing to see what we had to offer and the honesty box was getting filled.

So, glad we went away though, creating memories and a recharge of the batteries is always good medicine. Camping on the southern coastline with the children and meeting up with the friends we have made there over the years was wonderful. Rarely do you get a group of people together with +++ children aged 6 years to 16 years old and not an moment of angst for the whole time, despite being together almost 24/7. I think it is the nature of the place we stay at, it oozes calmness and from the moment you get there and pitch up you can't help but relax and forget all the hassles you have left behind in the real world. Kids run around making up games, swimming in the sea and generally remembering how to be kids and that they can survive without electronics! The days seem to slip by and even if the weather isn't tropical up on the site, by the time you make the challenging climb down to the beach it's own little microclimate seems to kick in and you could easily be in the mediterranean and not on an English beach in the middle of the wettest summer for a long time. The children were water babies all week and we were even joined by seals and dolphins to add to the excitement.

Now back home the serenity has somewhat left us. Normality resumed with ten tonne of washing and return of squabbling kids. Still, it was nice whilst it lasted and we are dreaming of our next adventure...
