It's been an interesting week - lots of orders and even tried out some new recipes. The cake and cookie side of the business certainly seems to be gaining in popularity - Bedfordians have a sweet tooth I feel!!
The comment we have had is " We love your cakes - I can pass them off as something I have made, but they are so much better than anything I could do....!!" I'm happy with that - why not?
We are getting more of a routine now - previously we were taking every order and working 7 days a week. Not sustainable in the long run as at some point the kids need attention and chef needs to sleep! However essential in the first few months to build everything up. Now we have a more solid customer base and can see the busy and quiet days so we can ensure we get at least 1 day off a week.
Still loving it though - lots of interesting characters coming to our door and giving feedback on favourite items, recipes to try out and plans for future. Facebook has been a godsend - for all our anti-facebook feelings prior to launching the business it's worked so well for us. It's a great way to share with our regular customers, take orders and gain feedback, What's more those on there are sharing and spreading the word for us - we are so grateful.
Pasties ... who would have thought so many people loved a pasty. It's crazy we can't make them quick enough - seems to be a favourite order for parties too.
Our oldest son comes through the door with a gang of school mates and a comment from one normally monosyllabic teenager is mused "your house always smells so good - got any cookies? " No waste in this house - always willing hoover - uppers for the odds and ends and ones that don't quite make the grade or "taste testers".
I think however we are going to be responsible for the general weight gain of the local population - so far that's the only complaint!
Hmm a bread that works on a diet ... food for thought ...
